I had an experience on Chatroulette once, and I was complete shocked of how people express themselves on this special type of media. This is a peer to peer online video chatting website which connect two users randomly. Some people find it is interesting to show self but some people demand sexual contents.
I explored myself with several encounters. There are lots of people who just like the way to meet new people, because they can stay anonymous, and whatever happens stays on the Internet, nothing relates to the real life. This is an evolutionary communication tool which gives people opportunity to speak to the strangers, and it protects people's privacy at the same time.
Some of people like me just find this idea quite interesting. When we take a look back to the old media, all of the them are one-sided mirror which maintain the distance between performer/producer and the audiences. It's hard for them to comunicate in the real time. But when people get online and start video chatting, they are both performers and audiences.
However, people sometimes just go crazy and break the social moral. One I would say is the sexual exhibition online. This is really interesting to me. In the reality, it's considered as sexual harassment to display nude body. However, it is not considered as crimes for users to display themselves naked online.So they seek cybersex online and gain this pleasure of exhibitionism. The network has extended people's behaviors, they can do more than what they can do in the real world.
Overall, there are some users just do the normal chat for fun. By comparing to the old media, interaction did not take place that much, and stayed anonymous was almost impossible. But the new media can offer help to people to experience the joy of escaping from the reality, and express whatever they want.
